The Nursing Education Initiative (NEI) is an education grants program that supports nurses in continuing education to improve their nursing knowledge and skills.
Funding is allocated on a quarterly basis. The term of the funding year is April 1 to March 31. All applications are evaluated using objective, pre-established criteria. In the event that the request for funds in any quarter exceeds the funding allocated for that quarter, eligible unfunded applications for the quarter will be placed on hold until the end of the fiscal year (March 31) and considered at that time should funding allow.
All applications are evaluated using objective, pre-established criteria. Although the majority of applications are deemed eligible, because of the limited amount of funding available, not all nurses who apply will be approved for funding. For this reason, submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
Applications must be received within 90 days of the end date of the education. Applicants in a multi-semester program should apply at the end of each semester, outlining each course in that semester. Please make sure that none of the courses are over the 90 day time limit. Refer to the application form for eligible dates and submission deadlines.
Registered Practical Nurses are to submit their applications to the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO). Registered Nurses are to submit their applications to the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario. It is not necessary to be a member of either of the professional associations to apply.
