RPNAO provides Ontario government with advice on the controlled act of psychotherapy

In September 2017, the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC), which provides independent policy advice to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on matters related to the regulation of health professions in Ontario, asked RPNAO and other key stakeholders for advice about regulating the profession of psychotherapy and adding a new controlled act of psychotherapy under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), 1991. Specifically, the government sought our advice on how to clarify the meaning of the controlled act of psychotherapy so that it is better understood by the public and health care providers. Our association and other health care stakeholders responded to the government’s request, and in December 2017 the controlled act of psychotherapy was proclaimed. Please visit the website of the College of Nurses of Ontario for more information about what nurses need to know about psychotherapy and the controlled act of psychotherapy.
