This panel consists of RPNs who have taken an alternate career pathway to a formal leadership role. The panelists will share their journey, describe their scope of practice and provide advice for others about to embark on this path. The discussion will be moderated by Mary Wheeler, an expert in career development and cofounder of donnerwheeler, who have also worked with RPNAO to create a RPN specific Career Directions program for Ontario’s RPNs.

RPNAO LTC Study- An Unacceptable Reality

 

Researchers/Presenters Sara Lankshear, PhD, Janet Rush PhD will present the results of this RPNAO sponsored study that gave voice to the experience of nurses working in LTC settings and what they perceive to be the enablers and barriers to the provision of optimal resident care. 

This session provides the opportunity for nurses and nursing leaders to learn more about the quantitative and qualitative data that identifed the issues and impact on staff and provides  future implications for practice, policy, education, leadership and research.

RPNAO Leadership Development Pathway

Career Directions© Workshop (Mary Wheeler, RN, MEd, Certified Ontological Coach)

This workshop is designed for RPNs who have identified a career goal of finding a formal leadership opportunity. Using the Career Directions© program and additional career coaching support, interested participants will be provided an excellent opportunity to start their career plan. By the end of the workshop each participants will have developed a strategic career plan and will be offered a one hour group coaching follow-up session co-facilitated by the RPNAO Career Advisor Norma Tomlin RPN and Mary Wheeler. The RPNAO Professional Practice Associates will also continue to support the participants as they work towards achieving their career goals.
